So You Want to Quit Smoking?
First you need to think about why you want to quit smoking.
- It is okay to have mixed feelings about quitting. Don’t let that stop you from stopping though. There will be times every day that you don’t feel like quitting today. Toughen up and stick with it.
- Find reasons to quit smoking that mean a lot to you. This can be anything from health reasons to extra money in your pocket:
-
· How much extra money you will be saving from not buying cigarettes.
-
· All that extra time you will have instead of smoking.
-
· Rushing out to buy cigarettes.
-
· Not being short of breath all the time.
-
· Setting a better example for your loved ones.
- Now write down all of those reasons why you want to quit smoking cigarettes. Keep your lists where you will always have access to it, or what I did was make copies and make have them everywhere. Here are some examples of good places to keep your list.
- · In your car
- · Wallet or purse
- · Where you use to keep your cigarettes
- · On the fridge
Now it is time to set a quit date and stick to it. This can be any day you choose. I find it best to pick a day where you really have no outside obligations as the first day is always the worst.
Now instead of reaching for a cigarette, reach for your list to remind you why you are quitting smoking.
